Application Tips and Advice

For any scholarship that you apply to, you can improve your chances of being selected by following all the instructions and crafting a message that stands out.

Tell your story

Tell your compelling story in a relevant way. Don’t just state facts or talk about how much the award would help. Avoid the phrases “I deserve this because” and “Pick me”.

Follow the word count

Make sure you stick to the word count. Being outside of the word count will likely disqualify your application.

Double check your spelling and grammar

Double check your application for spelling and grammar. This includes the body of the email, your application and the filename of any attachments.

Follow all instructions

Make sure you submit all the requested information. Any documents should be attached to the email, not copied into the email body.

Know who you’re talking to

Each scholarship is put on by a specific person or organization. Look at who it is and, if possible, address the email or other materials toward the persons.
